Leslie Teets Sr. was also known as Granville Leslie Teets Sr. According to Bobby Teets-Welcher, he used the name Granville for a few years after he became an adult. He had trouble with his mail and someone else's mail in Buckhannon getting mixed up . He dropped the Granville from then on.¹ He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia, in the household of his parents, Anthony Lee "Tony" Teets and Laura (Louisa) Alice Cutright.⁸

Dice Teets died when he was only 28 years old. Sondra Jo Teets Trammel tells this story: "my dad (Dennis B. Teets) and my uncle Les (Leslie Teets Jr.) told me that Dice was a big time gambler. He had won a great deal of money, and someone killed him for the money. When they found his body, he had no money. If I remember right, that's what his parents (Anthony "Tony" Teets and Laura Cutright Teets) were told."¹⁰ Richard Terrence "Ricky" Teets says that his Dad, Leslie Teets Jr., told him the story that Dice as a young man got on a riverboat somewhere in Ohio, traveled down the Mississippi on the riverboat, probably working his way all the way to New Orleans. He made quite a bit of money working at whatever, then in New Orleans, got into a big poker game. He liked to gamble. Les said that is why he was called "Dice". Possibly no one knew what his given name was. He won a lot of money in the poker game; left and the men from whom he had won the money, jumped him outside; shot him with a 12-guage shotgun (blew him away). They then put him in a box and sent him back to WV on the train. Ricky said his Dad (Les Jr.) had taken him to the Hampton cemetery and Ricky asked about him; saying that sure was a funny name for a man to have.¹¹ He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia, in the household of his parents, Anthony Lee "Tony" Teets and Laura (Louisa) Alice Cutright.⁵

Note: Barbara Jean Melton was related to several Hays families in West Virginia. One of the cousins was a minister, Rev. Herman L. Hayes, who was a nationally known wood carver. He was called the "whittlin' parson". His work was displayed at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC, as well as many other places in the U.S.

El Campo - Roger Alan Starling, 65, of El Campo passed away Friday evening, March 24, 2006, surrounded by his family. He was born June 15, 1940 in Lawrence, Kansas to Ralph Edwin Starling of San Antonio and the late Margaret Alice Pierson Starling. His childhood was spent in Kansas, Arkansas and Texas. He graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1957, where he was affectionately known as "Magoo" and was voted "Most Mischievous" by his class. There, he met his high school sweetheart, Hedy, whom he married in 1960. He was a truck owner/operator for 32 years.
Roger was the proud father of five children. His passions were his family, playing dominoes, and spending time outdoors at his ranch with his Red Brangus cattle.
He is survived by his wife, father and children Roger Alan Starling, Jr. and wife, Donna of Flower Mound, Rhonda Ann Teets of El Campo, Ronnie Arlyn Starling of El Campo, Rebecca Allison Starling-Klatt and husband Kelvin Klatt of Sugar Land, and Rory Aaron Starling and wife Barbara of El Campo. His eight grandchildren are Jeremiah, Jared, Jacob and Joseph Teets of El Campo; Justin Teets of Camp Monteith, Kosovo; Bucky and Jolie Starling of Flower Mound and Grant Klatt of Sugar Land. A ninth grandchild is due in June. He was preceded in death by his mother, sister, Jane Ann Starling, and brother, Ronald Edwin Starling.

Visitation was held at 8 a.m. on Monday, March 27th at Wheeler Funeral Home (979) 543-3512. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at First Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 28th, Rev. Rick DuBroc officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at Willow Creek Cemetery in Vienna at 2:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be nephews Bill Bozka, Bob Bozka and Ed McCrumb, Jr.; grandsons Jeremiah and Jared Teets; and friend George Gerberman. Honorary pallbearers are grandsons Justin, Jacob, Joseph, Bucky and Grant and friends Jimmy George and Neil Rothbauer.

Donations may be made in memory of Roger to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in support of Lung Cancer Research at P.O. Box 4486 Houston, TX 77210-4486.

EL CAMPO - The Gates of Heaven opened for God to receive his newest angel, Jeremiah David Teets. He went to be with his creator Sept. 24, 2011. Jeremiah, 26, was born Oct. 28, 1984 to Rhonda Starling Teets and Richard Teets. He was the proud father of three children and his passions were his family, friends, music, his guitar, and life.
Jeremiah is survived by daughter, Iris Elaine Teets, and sons, Lennon William Teets and Isaac River Teets; his mother; his father; brothers, Justin Teets of San Marcos, Jared Teets of College Station, Jacob Teets and Joseph Teets of El Campo; and sister, Kira Teets of San Marcos.
