John Lawrence Teets

John Lawrence "Bugs" Teets married Dorothy Jane "Bunny" Higgins.¹ John Lawrence "Bugs" Teets was born on 25 April 1896 in Friendsville, Garrett, Maryland.^3,4,5,6 He was the son of John Cleophas Teets and Lillie Belle Friend.¹ John Lawrence "Bugs" Teets died on 10 December 1983 in Richwood, Nicholas, West Virginia, at age 87.^7,8
When he was a young boy, he was hit on the head by a flying baseball bat which fractured his skull. Dr. R. A. Ravenscroft sat up with him all night. At dawn he pulled the sheet up over John's body and told his father to go for the undertaker and left. John Cleophas, his father, according to Lillie Bell's story, after washing his face, and comforting Lillie (she was losing her third child!), he started to do what had to be done. Lillie said, "he had just stepped off the porch, when I noticed a movement under the sheet! I called to John C, told him to tell Dr. Ravenscroft and to hurry! Of course, after being wound up again, we made it -- when a Teets and a Friend are crossed, like I was, -- they become self-winding."⁹ Note: Story told by John Lawrence Teets, 7/1/1972:

In 1912 he went as a substitute for Ishmael Emmanuel Teets whom he understood was from Preston County, WV, but never found out just who he was. Ordered from Mt. Gretna back into Kanawha County for strike duty, enlisted as of 6/1/1912, age 16-gave the age of 18. He often wondered what became of Ishmael Emmanuel--for whom for a time, he answered, "Here!" when his name was called.

(This case from a letter to John E. Teets from John L. Teets,dated 9/13/1966).¹ He was educated in 1921 in at West Virginia Wesleyan College.⁹ He registered for the WWII Draft on on 27 April 1942 in Cabell, West Virginia.⁴

Leslie and Josephine met when they worked together in a movie house in Carnegie. Leslie managed the movie projection and Josephine sold tickets for the show. They dated for about 8 months before they were married. The theater closed for remodelling and they were out of jobs. That's when Josephine decided to get married since Leslie was leaving to look for work. He then opened up a paint store.

After they were married, they stayed briefly with Uncle Ernest in Clariton. They moved to West Newton, Pennsylvania, where Jack and Jimmy were born at home. They moved to Terra Alta and stayed with Leslie's mother Lillie. Patty was born at home in Terra Alta. Uncle Fred's wife, Thema, who was a nurse at a TB Sanitarium, delivered her. Uncle Fred wrote an article about it in the newpaper. Mary Ellen, Barbara and Gloria were all born on a Sunday. Barbara was born in the station wagon of Bill Manning.

During 1945 and 1947, Jack and Jimmy had a newspaper route, which helped to support the family. As the children grew and married, some moved to Michigan while some remained in the Pittsburgh area.¹⁰

I have been perusing my TEETS files. Made me realize how much I have not yet put into PAF.
A start on Rosalee Alora Jane TEETS and Charles COLE Family. They married on 4 November, 1933 at Uniontown, Fayette Co, PA. Both are buried at Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Township, Allegheny Co., PA.
Their youngest child Patricia Ann m Ronald "Red" LEWIS. She died on 2 March, 2002. Also buried at Round Hill. 4 children Lisa, Mark, Michelle, Troy. A transcribed copy of her obit follows:

Rufus Rollin Adair Teets was born on 26 March 1919 in Terra Alta, Preston, West Virginia.^{5,6,7,8,1,9,3} He was the son of Albert Erebannis "Bert" Teets and Mary Virginia "Mollie" Rodeheaver.⁴ Rufus Rollin Adair Teets married Eleanor Elizabeth Hinebaugh, daughter of William Jasper Hinebaugh and Zoie Riley, on 4 June 1939 in Hazelton, Preston, West Virginia.^6,10 Rufus Rollin Adair Teets married Dorothy Jane Smith, daughter of Elza "Bud" Smith and Lula May McCann, on 24 February 1945 in Towson, Maryland.¹¹ Rufus Rollin Adair Teets died on 7 January 1981 in Hazleton, Preston, West Virginia, at age 61.^5,12,13,8 He was buried on 10 January 1981 in Shady Grove Cemetery, Bruceton Mills, Preston, West Virginia.^7,8

Rufus fought in WWII, and he was a member of a Ranger Battalion in which he saw considerable action. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, by no less than DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, who, making the presentation to a small group of survivors of the battalion, acknowledged, "This award is one I myself, should have like to have won."¹⁴ He began military service on 18 March 1944 in Fort Thomas Newport, Kentucky.¹

died, Wednesday, January 7, 1981 at his home. He was born,
March 26, 1919 in Terra Alta, W.Va., the son of the late Albert
and Mary Mollie Rodeheaver Teets. He was a member of the
Hazalton Union Church and a World War 11 veteran. Surviving
are his wife, Dorothy Smith Teets; three sons, Clarence Cecil
Teets and Eugene Teets both of Bruceton, W.Va., and Allen
Teets of Friendsville, Md., four grandchildren and a sister, Edith
Wilburn of Bruceton, W.Va., He was preceded in death by a

The daughter of the late Elza (Bud) and Lulu McCann Smith, she was born Jan. 1, 1927, in Smithfield, Pa.

She was a member of the Hazelton Church of the Brethren and North Preston Senior Citizens.

Dorothy is survived by three sons and spouses, Clarence Cecil and Judy Teets of Hazelton, Eugene and Ronna Teets of Clifton Mills, and Allen and Carol Teets of Hazelton; a brother, Donald Smith of Smithfield; two sisters, Ruth Collins of Smithfield, and Donna Marshall of Uniontown, Pa.; six grandchildren and spouses, Jeff and Melanie, Andrew and Nicole, Kristie and Gary, Amy, Jeremy and Crystal, and Arden; and six great-grandchildren, Jessie, Jacob, Payton, Garrett, Tony and Daylon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rollin A. Teets, Jan. 7, 1981; a granddaughter, Pamela Teets; and two brothers and sisters.

Friends will be received from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Carl R. Spear Funeral Home, Brandonville-Bruceton Mills, W.Va.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Barry Adkins and the Rev. Gary Reed at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery, Bruceton Mills.

She was also preceded by her first husband, Oscar Uphold and her second husband, Lester Teets; six sons, Willard, Carlos, Donald, John, Carroll, and Vernon Uphold; two daughters, Frances and Carolyn Uphold; and three sisters, two brothers, and one grandson. She was the last surviving member of her family.

She was a member of the Laurel Run Church of God and was a homemaker.

Surviving are two sons, Danny Uphold, Accident, and Arthur ?Ike? Uphold, Oakland; one daughter, Ruth Wilson, Oakland; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and her extended family at the Oakland Nursing and Rehab Center.

Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, today, Thursday, Oct. 13, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.

Interment will be in Blooming Rose Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.

MATTHEW S. HOUSER

Matthew Scott Houser, 24, Independence, Mo., and formerly of Grantsville, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005, at University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore.

Born Dec. 18, 1980, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was a son of Scotti Blackmon, Frostburg, and Jon F. Houser, Drums, Pa.

Matthew was a graduate of Northern Garrett High School, where he was involved in football, basketball, and baseball. He received a degree in graphics design from Frostburg State University, where he was also involved in the J.V. football program. He was employed as a computer programmer for ATK Lake City Army Ammunitions Plant, Independence.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Jon J. Houser and wife Audra, and nephew and niece Colton and McKenna Houser, Grantsville; and his maternal grandparents, Ben and Mary Catherine Blackmon, LaPlata.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service of remembrance will be held in the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. Cremation will follow the service.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Matthew Houser Scholarship Fund at Northern Garrett High School.

Edna Foley Aksamit, 90, North Haven, Conn., died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at Connecticut Hospice.

Born Feb. 8, 1915, in Gormania, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Homer and Dora (Manx) Foley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John W. Aksamit. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m., at the old Gormania Presbyterian/Methodist Church, with the Rev. Neil Parsons officiating.

Interment will follow at the Bayard Cemetery.

The Burdock-Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Connecticut Hospice, 1000 Double Beech Road, Branford, CT 06405.
