    ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Ruth Teets Beers, 88, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C.

    Mrs. Beers was born in Uniontown, Pa., on Aug. 16, 1920, to the late Wallace H. Teets Sr. and Emma Herbold Teets. She was married to the late Arthur A. Beers.

    Mrs. Beers was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Goldsboro. She was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 370 in Uniontown.

    The family will receive friends Monday, March 23, 2009, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bill Ordelt officiating.

    Mrs. Beers is survived by her son, A.W. "Bill" Beers and wife, Barbara J. Beers of Rock Hill; her grandson, Kenneth J. Beers and wife, Jennifer L. Beers; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Sarah Beers.

     William Arthur Beers was born on 4 July 1920 in Bluefield, Mercer, West Virginia.1,2,3 He was the son of James William Beers and Elizabeth Louise Taylor.1 William Arthur Beers married Ruth Emma Teets, daughter of Wallace Howard Teets and Ruth Emma Herbold, on 29 December 1943.1,4 William Arthur Beers died on 20 March 1987 in Goldsboro, Wayne, North Carolina, at age 66.2,3,1
     He was orphaned at an early age. He gave his birthdate as July 4, 1920 and was known as Archie as a boy and as Art or Archie as an adult. After his death, information from other family members came to light that showed that he was probably born in 1919 and was named William Arthur Beers. No birth records have been found to substantiate this; however, some school records from the mid 1930’s show the name William Arthur Beers. It is likely that he used Arthur as a first name and Archie as a middle name when enlisting in the U. S. Army in 1939 as he probably only knew his name as Archie at the time.1 Arthur had a wooden leg due to a war injury.4 William Arthur Beers was also known as Arthur Archie Beers.4,5

    Mrs. Beers was born in Uniontown, Pa., on Aug. 16, 1920, to the late Wallace H. Teets Sr. and Emma Herbold Teets. She was married to the late Arthur A. Beers.

    Mrs. Beers was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Goldsboro. She was past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 370 in Uniontown.

    The family will receive friends Monday, March 23, 2009, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bill Ordelt officiating.

    Mrs. Beers is survived by her son, A.W. "Bill" Beers and wife, Barbara J. Beers of Rock Hill; her grandson, Kenneth J. Beers and wife, Jennifer L. Beers; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Sarah Beers.
