     George Oscar "Bud" Simons was born on 18 March 1882.⁷ He was born on 19 March 1882 in Sand Run, Upshur, West Virginia.^8,1,3,9 He was the son of G. W. Simons and Eliza Jane (?).⁶ George Oscar "Bud" Simons married Rebecca J. "Becca" Wilfong, daughter of Ashley "Ash" Wesley Wilfong and Elizabeth P. "Bettie" Napier, circa 1907; Bud Simons was Rebecca's first husband.^4,5 George Oscar "Bud" Simons was buried on 15 March 1944 in Heavner Cemetery, Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia.^10,6 He died on 15 March 1944 in Court House, Weston, Lewis, West Virginia, at age 61.⁶
     George Oscar "Bud" Simons was also known as George Osker Simmons.⁷ He registered for the WWI Draft on on 12 September 1918 in Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia.⁷ He registered for the WWII Draft on in 1942 in Upshur, West Virginia.¹¹

     Celia Eunice "Celie" Wilfong was born on 10 May 1845 in Upshur, West Virginia.^{8,1,9,10,11,12,13,2,14} She was the daughter of John Frederick Wilfong and Magdalina Elizabeth Cutright.^5,6,7 Celia Eunice "Celie" Wilfong married Joshua J. Weekley, son of Stephen Weekley and Nancy (?), on 19 June 1863.^1,15 Celia Eunice "Celie" Wilfong married John Josiah Wilfong, son of Henry Wilfong and Catherine "Kate" Mowry, on 30 December 1865 in Upshur, West Virginia.^16,17,18 Celia Eunice "Celie" Wilfong died on 5 March 1922 in Upshur, West Virginia, at age 76.^8,19 She was buried on 6 March 1922 in Bailey Ridge Cemetery, Upshur, West Virginia.^8,20,21,19
     Celia Eunice "Celie" Wilfong was also known as Celia Unice Wilfong.¹ Celia Eunice "Celie" Wilfong was also known as Celia V. Wilfong.⁸

     John Josiah Wilfong was born on 4 July 1845 in Virginia.^{5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13} He was the son of Henry Wilfong and Catherine "Kate" Mowry.^2,4 John Josiah Wilfong was born on 28 July 1845; calculated back from death date of 3/28/1920 in Upshur Co. Death Records 1853-1928.^14,15
He married Celia Eunice "Celie" Wilfong, daughter of John Frederick Wilfong and Magdalina Elizabeth Cutright, on 30 December 1865 in Upshur, West Virginia.^16,17,18 John Josiah Wilfong died on 28 March 1920 in Upshur, West Virginia, at age 74.⁵ He was buried after 28 March 1920 in Sand Spring Cemetery Bailey Ridge Cemetery, Upshur, West Virginia.¹⁹
     In his father's family, there were 12 children, eight sons and four daughters. John J. Wilfong owned a farm of 72.5 acres of land on Little Sand Run, Washington District, Upshur County.

He is a Republican in politics and a United Brethren in Christ.²⁰ John J. Wilfong enlisted in the Union Army on February 17, 1863 and served until June 13, 1865. He was discharged at Wheeling, W. Va.²

     Magdalina Elizabeth Cutright was born circa 1824.^4,5,6,7,3 She was the daughter of John Cutright Jr. and Christina Weatherholt.³ Magdalina Elizabeth Cutright married John Frederick Wilfong on 14 September 1842 in Lewis, Virginia; John F. and Magdaline had seven daughters and three sons.

Note: the book has the number of children reversed, seven sons and three daughters. This is clearly an error.^8,9,10 Magdalina Elizabeth Cutright married Jacob J. Roach on 7 February 1867.¹¹ Magdalina Elizabeth Cutright died in 1915.¹²
     Magdalina Elizabeth Cutright was also known as Lucinda.⁵ Magdalina Elizabeth Cutright was also known as Mary Cutright.¹³

     Tyrone Lee Wright was born on 26 March 1971 in Mesa, Maricopa, Arizona. He is the son of Robert Joseph Wright and Cynthia Ann Wacht.

     Richard Wright was born on 15 September 1975 in Greeley, Weld, Colorado. He is the son of Robert Joseph Wright and Cynthia Ann Wacht.

     Robert L. Wilfong was born in July 1853.⁵ He was born on 16 July 1855 in Upshur, West Virginia.^1,3 He was born on 18 July 1856 in Upshur, West Virginia.^{6,7,8,4,5,9,10} He was the son of Henry Wilfong [Jr.] and Martha Pritt.^3,4 Robert L. Wilfong married Clementine "Tiny/Tiney" Williams, daughter of Elijah King and Phebe Williams, on 8 March 1881 in Gilmer, West Virginia.^8,11,12,1
     Robert L. Wilfong was also known as James R. Wilfong.¹³

     Ashley "Ash" Wesley Wilfong was born on 1 December 1847.³ He was born on 11 December 1847 in Bull Run, Lewis, Virginia.^{4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11} He was the son of William Gould and Martha Pritt.^1,2 Ashley "Ash" Wesley Wilfong married Elizabeth P. "Bettie" Napier, daughter of Richard Alan Napier and Nancy Ellington, on 11 June 1871 in Upshur, West Virginia.^12,13,14 Ashley "Ash" Wesley Wilfong was buried in 1936 in Bailey Ridge Cemetery, Union District, Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia; Ashley was buried in a 21-gun salute at Bailey Cemetery in Upshur County.^15,16,17 He died in 1936 in Upshur, West Virginia; Ashley died while out cutting firewood for the fireplace.¹⁵

I've searched for the microfiche copies of Grandfather Ashley's induction and discharge papers from the Civil War without success. We did find David's notes taken at the National Archives, where an 1890 Pensioners' Roll had him as Ashley Willfong (note 2 L's). Military records had him both as Ashly Wilfawn, Co. F 17th WV Infantry, and also Ashley Willfawn. His enlistment papers were certified as Ashly Wilfong by a Capt. James Evans at Grafton, WV on September 3, 1864 and mustered out on June 30, 1865. He was apparently in a Post Hospital in Clarksburg WV from November 4, 1864 through December ??, 1864. Verbatim, From "The History of Upshur County West Virginia", by W. B. Cutright, quote: "Ashley Wesley Wilfong, a farmer in the Union District, was born December 1, 1847, son of Henry Wilfong and Martha Pritt. grandson of Henry Wilfong and the great grandson of John Wilfong. Legend has it that John Wilfong, the great grandfather of the Wilfong family, when very young, was taken, raised and started into life by a German of Bath County, Va., and through gratification of an eccentricity of this German, who raised the boy, he was named, or rather, re-named, Wilfong, and what his original family name was, his descendants here do not know.

The Wilfongs came to Upshur County in 1830, and settled on Big Sand Run, on which is known as the Day farm. The subject of this sketch [Ashley] was born in Meade District; was raised in Washington District and educated there. He was raised a farmer and is now owner of 112 acres of land on Little Sand Run. He devotes his time and attention to the handling and raising of livestock. He married Elizabeth Napier, daughter of Richard A. Napier and Nancy Elleton, natives of Albermarle County, June 13, 1871. Children: Maggie Bird, James A Garfield, John Day, and Rebecca, wife of Bud Simon.

Mr. Wilfong was a soldier of Company F, 17th West Virginia Infantry, enlisting September 7, 1864, and being mustered out in 1865. During his services he captured Lieutenant Long on Birch River alone. His duty as a soldier made him a scout in Nicholas, Webster and Braxton Counties. He is a pensioner of the United States."^18,19 In a newspaper article from the Buckhannon Delta and Knight Errant, dated July 3, 1913: "The old soldiers from the county who are attending the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, are Ashley Wilfong...et al".¹⁹ Mr. Wilfong was of German descent. His mother was Martha Pritt. Mr. Wilfong enlisted in Company F., of the 17th W. Va. Was in many skirmishes. Served under Kelly, Sherman, and Sheriden. Was mustered out at the close of the war at Wheeling.

His wife, Elizabeth Napier, was born in Albermarle County, January 8, 1848. Her people came from England.

Except for the eight years prior to 1881, they have lived in Upshur County. In the 64 years of their marriage there have been no deaths in their immediate family. They still reside at Overhill and Mr. Wilfong comes to Buckhannon at least once a week to transact business.

All of the Wilfongs and Napiers, with the exception of Ashley Wilfong and Tobe Napier, a brother of Mrs. Wilfong, were for the South. Mr. Ashley Wilfong had four nephews, older than he, who were in the Union Army: Samuel, who was in the 3rd W. Va. Inf; George, 10th W. Va. Inf; and John and Dan in the 3rd Va. Calvr. They all enlisted at Buckhannon.²⁰ Mr. Wilfong was born at Bull Run, December 11, 1847. His mother came from New England. He was married to Elizabeth Napier at Sand Run, Jun 13, 1871 by Joseph Howser, a Dunkard minister. They have four children, Mrs. Maggie Westfall, James A. Garfield, John Day, and Mrs. Becky Jane Simmons.

During Imboden's raid, in 183, he hid with his people in a thicked above Grassy Run.

Mr. Wilfong volunteered at Grafton and was sworn in September 19, 1863, before he was 16, by Colonel George Latham. He belonged to the 17th W. Va. Six of the companies were put under Sherman. The only important battle in which he participated was at Winchester. Mr. Wilfong was shot twice by bushwhackers, but was never seriously wounded.

He is one of the ten surviving Civil War veterans in Upshur County.

She was known as "Toots" when I was a kid and the story was that she was left by a band of gypsies and Grandpa Ashley took her in and raised her. When the estate of Ashley was divided it went to Maggie, Rebecca, John Day, and Garfield who split his inheritance with Toots. Ashley "Ash" Wesley Wilfong was also known as Ashla Wilfong.¹⁴ Ashley "Ash" Wesley Wilfong was also known as Ashley W. Willfong.²¹ Ashley "Ash" Wesley Wilfong was also known as Ashley Pritt.²² There is a story that Ashley's grandparents were adopted by a German family named Wilfong, and that their real name was Gould. This remains to be proven. Mr. Wilfong was a soldier of Company F, 17th West Virginia Infantry, enlisting September 7, 1864, and being mustered out in 1865.      Henry Wilfong was born in May 1822 in Upshur, Virginia.^{8,9,10,11,12,13,14} He was the son of Henry Wilfong [Jr.] and Mary Karahoof.⁷ Henry Wilfong married Catherine "Kate" Mowry, daughter of John Mowry and Nancy Dean, on 9 September 1841 in Augusta, Virginia.¹⁵ Henry Wilfong died on 24 October 1906 at age 84.^16,9 He was buried after 24 October 1906 in Bailey Ridge Cemetery, Upshur, West Virginia.⁹
     Henry Wilfong was He was a farmer (per the census in 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1900).¹⁷ From the HISTORY OF THE SAGO COMMUNITY, Prepared By E. R. Grose 1926:

"The Henry Wilfong family settled on the waters of Truby's Run before the Civil War. In this family were several children; namely, George, Samuel Henry, John, Daniel, Columbus, Bilda, Phillip, Abraham, Mary Elizabeth, Loise, Tilda, and Loretta.

Four of the boys, George, Samuel Henry, John, and Daniel, served as soldiers in the Civil War on the Union side. Samuel Henry lost his life in the service of his country.

The family is noted for its industry and has added largely to the development of the Truby's Run locality."¹⁸ Henry Wilfong was also known as Henry Willfong, per 1880 U. S. Federal Census and Upshur County Cemetery readings.^19,13

     Lillie May "Toots" Wilfong was born circa 1900 in Upshur, West Virginia.^2,3,4 She is the daughter of Ashley "Ash" Wesley Wilfong and Elizabeth P. "Bettie" Napier.² Lillie May "Toots" Wilfong married Walter Garlton Bailey, son of Nelson Otterbein Bailey and Cora Ann Bennett, on 6 October 1919.¹
     Gllendoline Ruth "Sue" Wilfong: Lillie Mae Wilfong was not the real daughter of Ashley and Bettie. [note from John Teets]: It can be seen in the 1910 Census for Upshur County, where Lillie Mae is shown as a boarder, that her real name was Lillie Mae Sites, born c1900.⁵ Lillie May "Toots" Wilfong was also known as Lillie Mae "Toots" Sites.²

     Archie Johnson married Oleeda "Pearl" Adkins. Archie Johnson was born on 7 October 1903.^2,3,4 He was the son of Houston McCellan "Mac" Johnson and Mary Frances "Fannie" Kincaid. Archie Johnson died in December 1965 in Kincaid, Fayette, West Virginia, at age 62.^3,2

     Christina Gayle Johnson was born on 28 December 1976.¹ She is the daughter of Gary Lee Johnson and Arlene Rosalie Kemp.

     Walter Garlton Bailey was buried in Bailey Cemetery, Upshur, West Virginia. He was born on 8 June 1896 in Upshur, West Virginia.^1,2,3,4 He was the son of Nelson Otterbein Bailey and Cora Ann Bennett. Walter Garlton Bailey married Lillie May "Toots" Wilfong, daughter of Ashley "Ash" Wesley Wilfong and Elizabeth P. "Bettie" Napier, on 6 October 1919.⁵ Walter Garlton Bailey died on 30 June 1949 in Upshur, West Virginia, at age 53.
     Walter Garlton Bailey registered for the WWI Draft on on 5 June 1918 in Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia.¹ He registered for the WWII Draft on on 27 April 1942 in Wood, West Virginia.²

     Cora Ann Bennett was born circa 1877 in Upshur, West Virginia.^2,1 She was the daughter of William B. Bennett and Malinda (?).¹ Cora Ann Bennett married Nelson Otterbein Bailey, son of William Henry Bailey and Hannah Wilfong, on 31 July 1895 in at the residence of the bride's parents, Upshur, West Virginia.¹

     William Henry Miles was born on 17 April 1864 in West Virginia.^2,3,4,5,6,7 He was the son of William Miles and Mary Elizabeth Pumphrey. William Henry Miles was born on 17 April 1865 in Upshur, West Virginia.⁸ He married Nancy Ellen Reed, daughter of Fielding Reed and Sarah C. Dunbar, on 28 February 1884 in at the home of Fielding Reed, Harrison, West Virginia.⁹ William Henry Miles married Maggie "Meg" Bird Wilfong, daughter of Ashley "Ash" Wesley Wilfong and Elizabeth P. "Bettie" Napier, on 24 July 1909 in Upshur, West Virginia.¹⁰ William Henry Miles died on 9 January 1920 in Upshur, West Virginia, at age 55.^8,6,7 He was buried on 11 January 1920 in Mt. Rupert, Upshur, West Virginia.⁸

     Mary Elizabeth Pumphrey was born on 11 September 1838 in Augusta, Virginia.^3,4,5,1 She was the daughter of Lorenzo Dow Pumphrey and Anna Lee "Annie" Wilfong.^1,2 Mary Elizabeth Pumphrey married William Miles, son of David Miles and Sarah (?), on 17 February 1852.⁶ Mary Elizabeth Pumphrey married William Miles, son of David Miles and Sarah (?), on 17 February 1853.^7,1 Mary Elizabeth Pumphrey died on 13 November 1915 in Adrian, Upshur, West Virginia, at age 77; Mary died at the home of her son David A. Miles.¹ She was buried after 13 November 1915 in Mt. Rupert Cemetery, Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia.¹

     William Miles was born on 22 October 1826 in Bath, England.^1,2,3,4 He was the son of David Miles and Sarah (?). William Miles married Mary Elizabeth Pumphrey, daughter of Lorenzo Dow Pumphrey and Anna Lee "Annie" Wilfong, on 17 February 1852.⁴ William Miles married Mary Elizabeth Pumphrey, daughter of Lorenzo Dow Pumphrey and Anna Lee "Annie" Wilfong, on 17 February 1853.^5,3 William Miles died on 14 August 1901 in Upshur, West Virginia, at age 74.^3,4 He was buried after 14 August 1901 in Mt. Rupert Cemetery, Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia.³
     William Miles came to America in 1849 (from Wales) with his mother Sarah, his brother John and his sister Priscilla.

He settled in Pennsylvania and later moved to West Virginia. His occupation was listed in the census as "collier". He sold whiskey without a license as required by law.

On 10/13/1868 William secured 7 acres of land from Ann Pumphrey, the mother of Mary Elizabeth Pumphrey Miles.

William was injured when cutting timber and was bedridden for three months. He also suffered with arthritis.

He served 12 1/2 days during the Civil War with pay at $2.50 per day. He was also paid $3.00 for one suit of clothing.^6,7 He immigrated on 22 September 1849 to Boston, Massachusetts.⁸

     Anna Elizabeth "Ann" Rollins was born circa 1851 in Lewis, West Virginia.^2,1,3,4 She was the daughter of E. D. Rollins and Sarah (?).¹ Anna Elizabeth "Ann" Rollins married Lafayette Westfall, son of Martin Westfall and Rebecca Warner, on 24 December 1868 in Upshur, West Virginia.^2,5 Anna Elizabeth "Ann" Rollins died on 7 August 1883 in Upshur, West Virginia.¹
     Anna Elizabeth "Ann" Rollins was also known as Ann Eliza Rollins.^2,6

     Clara Ellen "Clarey" Miller was born on 20 February 1870 in Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia.^{4,5,6,2,7,8,9} She was the daughter of James Henry Miller and Martha Anna Simons.³ Clara Ellen "Clarey" Miller married George Iris Miles, son of William Miles and Mary Elizabeth Pumphrey, on 10 January 1895 in Upshur, West Virginia.^1,10,11 Clara Ellen "Clarey" Miller married John Day Wilfong, son of Ashley "Ash" Wesley Wilfong and Elizabeth P. "Bettie" Napier, on 2 October 1911 in Upshur, West Virginia.¹² Clara Ellen "Clarey" Miller died on 11 March 1958 in Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia, at age 88.^13,4,1,9 She was buried after 11 March 1958 in Mt. Rupert Cemetery, Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia.^14,15,16
     Sue Wilfong (Gum): according to legend, the Miller family goes back to the Mayflower.

McClelland, daughter of Ezekial McClelland and Nancy (?), on 3 April 1877 in Harrison, West Virginia.^12,4,9,6 William Alonzo Wilfong died on 13 December 1933 in Akron, Summit, Ohio, at age 80.^13,5 He was buried after 13 December 1933 in East Liberty, Summit, Ohio.⁵
     The William Pritt in the 1860 census is apparently one and the same with William Alonzo Wilfong, b. 1/9/1853.¹⁴ William Alonzo Wilfong was also known as William A. Gould.^12,4 William Alonzo Wilfong was also known as William Pritt.

     Daniel Wilfong was born on 4 July 1847 in Virginia.^{2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9} He was the son of Henry Wilfong and Catherine "Kate" Mowry.¹ Daniel Wilfong married Elizabeth R. Willoughby, daughter of Alfred Willoughby and Elizabeth "Betsy" Carter, on 29 October 1868 in Upshur, West Virginia.^10,11 Daniel Wilfong married Sophronia E. Butcher on 11 August 1898 in at the bride's parents, Lewis, West Virginia.¹² Daniel Wilfong married Susan Catherine Sayre on 10 January 1907 in Upshur, West Virginia.^13,14 Daniel Wilfong married Margaret Ellen Gooden, daughter of George Washington Gooden and Mary Lovernia Cutright, on 28 May 1908.^15,16 Daniel Wilfong died on 20 June 1933 in Alton, Upshur, West Virginia, at age 85.¹⁷ He was buried on 22 June 1933 in Alton (Bailey Cemetery?), Alton, Upshur, West Virginia.¹⁷

     Elizabeth R. Willoughby was born circa 1833 in Virginia.^4,5,6,3 She was the daughter of Alfred Willoughby and Elizabeth "Betsy" Carter.³ Elizabeth R. Willoughby married Jacob C. Smith on 7 October 1854 in Upshur, West Virginia.^1,4 Elizabeth R. Willoughby married Daniel Wilfong, son of Henry Wilfong and Catherine "Kate" Mowry, on 29 October 1868 in Upshur, West Virginia.^1,7 Elizabeth R. Willoughby died between 1900 and 1907.⁸
