Lake Park, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at the Highlands Regional Medical Cemetery, Sebring. He was a wonderful and loving husband and devoted father.
    Born Sept. 10, 1925, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harold B. and Hilda V. (Alberts) Mc-Crum. He was also preceded in death by one son, Harold M. McCrum; one daughter, Catherine M. McCrum; and four grandsons, Charles B. McCrum III, Nathan B. McCrum, Page R. McCrum II, and John M. Boone.
    He was a graduate of the Aurora High School, class of 1942. He joined the U.S. Army, and served 5? years in Germany and France during World War II. He survived the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After the war, he studied at West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va. He then traveled the East Coast working on gas pipelines until 1954 when he went to work for the Eagle Pencil Company and retired in 1976 as the plant supervisor.
    He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, where he held the position of sergeant at arms, treasurer, and secretary. He was a member of Proctor Kildow Post #71, American Legion, Oakland, and the Pentecostal Holiness Church, Avon Park, Fla., and was a former member of the Walnut Bottom Assembly of God Church, Swanton.
    He is survived of his wife of 51 years, Arveta M. (Michaels) McCrum; two daughters, Brenda S. Lewis and fianc? Kevin Hughes, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Victoria V. Tasker, Haver Hill, N.H.; two sons, Charles B. McCrum Jr. and wife Robin, Philippi, W.Va., and Page R. McCrum and wife Julia, Mtn. Lake Park; one brother, Page N. McCrum, Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
    Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where a service was held on Sunday, Feb. 27, with Pastor Wally Weeks officiating.
    Interment was in the Aurora Cemetery, Aurora.
    Military honors were accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans' organizations in southern Garrett County.
    The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Pleasant View Baptist Church, 8931 Garrett Highway, Oakland, MD 21550.

I can still see the layout of the store. The wooden shelves were so dark from age and smoke from the pot belly stove. Those shelves were stacked with colorful boxes and tins and then there was the glass candy counter. As a child, it looked like hundreds of different kinds of candies. There are some really good things in our lives that our children and
grandchildren will never experience.2
