Gerhardt Befort was born on 10 February 1832 in Obermonjou, Samara, Volga, Russia.^2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of Anton Befort and Anna Elizabetha (?). Gerhardt Befort married Anna Maria Catherina "Katie" Stecklein circa 1858 in Russia.⁶ Gerhardt Befort died on 16 August 1906 in Munjor, Ellis, Kansas, at age 74.^6,7 He was buried after 16 August 1906 in Munjor, Ellis, Kansas.⁶

Gerhardt Befort was also known as Gerhard Befort.¹ "Migration from the Russian Empire", Volume 1, states that Gottfried Reford arrived in New York from Bremen on July 20, 1878 with his wife Catharina family of seven children, Joseph, Elisabeth, Amalie, Alexander, Catharina, Johannes, and Andreas.⁸ Gerhardt Befort was also known as Gahart Beffort.⁵ Gerhardt Befort was also known as Gottfried Reford.⁸ The Befort family were one of the original settlers of Obermonjou in 1766. There were a total of 429 people and all of them were Catholics.⁹ He immigrated on 17 July 1876 to New York, New York; He arrived 17 Jul 1876 in New York on the SS Donau from Bremen, Germany. They started in Obermonjou, Russia and went to Bremen. The ship's manifest lists him as Gottfried Befort.⁶

Anton "Linke" Befort was born on 2 February 1856 in Obermonjou, Russia.^{2,3,4,5,6,7,8} He was the son of Gerhardt Befort and Anna Maria Catherina "Katie" Stecklein. Anton "Linke" Befort married Anna Katherine "Kate/Katie" Rupp, daughter of Johannes Rupp and Catherine Elizabeth Befort, circa 1875.^5,6 Anton "Linke" Befort died on 26 February 1929 in Munjor, Ellis, Kansas, at age 73.⁸ He was buried after 26 February 1929 in Munjor, Ellis, Kansas.⁹
Anton "Linke" Befort immigrated on 26 October 1876 to New York, New York; Anton immigrated on 26 October 1876 to New York from Hamburg and Havre on the SS Gellert.^10,8 He immigrated in 1876 to Kansas.¹¹
