Elijah Stansberry was born on 16 July 1838 in Fairmont, Monongalia, West Virginia.^{2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10} He was the son of Stephen Stansberry and Sarah Sapp.¹ Elijah Stansberry married Cecelia "Celia" Boggess, daughter of John Lindsay Boggess and Delilah (Delila or Eliza) Boyles, on 2 December 1862 in Upshur, West Virginia.^3,9 Elijah Stansberry died on 2 January 1930 in Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia, at age 91.^11,12,2 He was buried in Hampton Cemetery, Buckhannon, Upshur, West Virginia.¹³

Elijah Stansberry as a young man could swim the great Monongahela River holding his shoes and clothes in one hand and swim with the other. To tell you the truth, boys will be boys, but we have been told he did this once a week in order to get to the other side to call on Celia Boggess and did not want to spend half a day waiting for his clothes to dry.⁴ It is believed that Elijah Stansberry and wife Cecilia Boggess Stansberry came to Buckhannon, Upshur County, West Virginia in 1862.¹

I myself remember going to West Virginia when I was 5-7 years old when
my mother visited
My g-grandmother Lena at her house. My mother has a picture somewhere of her
in a four generation photo. I used to have a little lead plaque that hung
outside her house.

A little about myself I was born 20 June 1963 in Barberton OH and have
four brothers. I joined the U.S. Navy directly out of high school and
remained in the service until I retired in February 2004.
