     A. I. Sypolt was a member of an early family of Preston County, farmers and home and barn builders in the Sypolt Run area of the county. About 1885 upon marriage, Sypolt obtained some acreage in the town of Terra Alta, on both sides of then N. Main Street adjacent to Highland Cottage grounds; developed lots and being a carpenter, sold lots and built homes for buyers. Later he became a merchant with a store on what is now Washington Avenue, Terra Alta.6

    A native of Friendsville she was a daughter of the late Peter and Blanch (Teets) Uphold. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy B. DeWitt in 1976. She was a member of Laurel Run Church of God.

    Survivors include two sons, Donald DeWitt, Oakland, Md. and Otis DeWitt, Harrisburg, Pa.; these daughters, Mrs. Marie Alexander, Frostburg, Md. Mrs. Dolly Fike, Addison, Pa., and Mrs. Leona Tressler, Grafton, Md. Mrs. Betty Vincent, Salsibury, Pa., and Mrs. Norma Uphold, Friendsville, Md.; one brother, Robert Uphold, Hazelton, W.Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Gibson, Oakland, Md. Mrs. Edna Rodeheaver, Hazelton, W.Va., and Mrs. Grace
    Wilson, Arlington, Va.; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

    Friends were received in the Newman Funeral Home where services were conducsted by the Rev. Philip Geoghas. Interment, Blooming Rose Cemetery.

    The Republic, September 28, 1978.
