David Harclerode Sr.
     David Harclerode Sr. was born on 13 November 1841 in Pennsylvania.5,6,7,8,2,9 He was the son of John Henry Harclerode III and Julia Ann Cogan.4 David Harclerode Sr. married Mary Wyles, daughter of Samuel Wyles and Hannah Richey, on 31 January 1864 in Snake Spring Township, Bedford, Pennsylvania.2 David Harclerode Sr. died on 21 February 1911 in Pennsylvania at age 69.10,2,9 He was buried after 21 February 1911 in Everett Cemetery, Everett, Pennsylvania.10
     "His military pension records lists his occupation as that of a farmer, 5ft-6in in height with gray eyes and dark hair. David enlisted August 13, 1862 and was mustered in to serve under Captain William McGraw and Colonel Jacob Williams in Company E, 125th Regt., Pa. Volunteers Infantry. After a forced march to South Mountain, he was wounded at the battle of Antietam and was "compelled to lie out of doors four days and nights before being sent to a hospital."

"Except for brief moves to Missouri and Illinois, David and Mary lived in Everett, Pa. and are buried there."2 He began military service on 13 August 1862 Company E, 125th Regt., Pa. Volunteers Infantry.2

    My Great-Grandfather Samuel was the son of David Harclerode and Mary Wyles Harclerode. He married Minnie Arvadia Florence Brown on April 30, 1891 in Everett, Bedford County, Pa.

    Samuel worked as a "Blower Boss" at the Everett Blast Furnace. He also worked in the same position in furnaces located in: Rock Hill, Saxton, Riddlesburg, and Monessen, Pa. Samuel was asked by James Stanford Fraser Sr. to help erect the Trumbull Cliffs Furnace in Warren, Ohio. Samuel moved his family to Warren, Ohio in the early 1920s. The Trumbull Cliffs Furnace later became a part of Republican Steel Corp. Samuel was employed at the Trumbull Cliffs Furnace until his retirement in 1938.

    Samuel and Minnie had the following children: (1) Chester Arthur Harclerode, (2) Charles Henry Harclerode, (3) Jesse Joseph Harclerode, (4) Eva Masouri Harclerode McCummins, and Arvadia Harclerode Hartman Burbank.

    Samuel was described by his grandchildren as a kind and quiet man. It was said that he could speak German as well as English.

    Samuel died of a heart attack just a few months after celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary in 1941.
