    Alpha Teats, a farmer of Industry township, was born March 3, 1831, in Preston county, West Virginia. His parents were Adam and Elizabeth (Moser) Teats, who were likewise natives of West Virginia. His father was born in 1790, and his mother July 13, 1793. Their marriage occurred in 1813, and the former died in 1865, the latter in 1869. Alpha was brought up on a farm and received his education as opportunity offered in the common schools, working hard during the summer months on the farm. He remained with his parents, engaged in the various duties incident to farm life, until 22 years old, and then worked out by the month for about three years. He then came west, and first lived with Nathaniel Scott, in Chalmers township, of this county, about two years, working by the month. Subsequently he worked for other parties until 1860. Upon the 6th day of March, of that year, he was married to Mary Vail, daughter of John Vail, of Industry township. By that union were five children—Lucinda, born August 1, 1861; Adaline, born July 16, 1864; Nancy L., born September 24, 1865; John E., born January 23, 1868, and died August 21, 1869, and Bertha S., born January 18, 1877. Mr. Teats is now engaged in general farming, and owns a farm on section 8, Industry township, which is fairly well improved. Himself and wife are members of the Christian church.     Mildred R. "Polly" (Teets) Spicer, 85, of Cumberland, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at Memorial Hospital.

    Born July 11, 1920, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Cora Alice Teets. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William J. Spicer, one brother, Robert L. Teets, Sr., and two sisters, Violet M. "Tootie" Smith and Della S. Campbell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

    Mrs. Spicer was owner and operator of the Carnation Beauty Shop, a 1938 graduate of Fort Hill High School, 1939 graduate of Cora Cages Beauty School, a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church, the Church Sodality, Ridgeley Senior Citizens, former member of the Allegany County Hairdresser Association, and a member of 4th District Women Democrat Club. Polly was employed as the beautician at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., for 50 years.

    Surviving are two daughters, Mary Frances Alt and husband Bruce; and Susan V. Beck and husband Bob, all of Cumberland; seven grandchildren, William G. Alt and wife Terry, Reston, VA; Robert B. Alt and wife Vikki, Morris Chapel, TN; Sheila S. Greise and husband Donald, Cumberland; Sheri K. Rotruck and husband Tony, Bel Air, Cumberland; Kirk L. Beck and wife Ellen, Cumberland; Capt. Sarah S. Beck, U.S.A.F., Little Rock, AK; and Kyle R. Beck and fianc? Brie Burns, Cumberland; and nine great-grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Alt; Bethany N. Alt; Caitlin R. Alt; Joshua B. Alt; Justin D.     A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary?s Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.

    Interment will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery.

    Born July 11, 1920, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Cora Alice Teets. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William J. Spicer, one brother, Robert L. Teets, Sr., and two sisters, Violet M. "Tootie" Smith and Della S. Campbell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

    Mrs. Spicer was owner and operator of the Carnation Beauty Shop, a 1938 graduate of Fort Hill High School, 1939 graduate of Cora Cages Beauty School, a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church, the Church Sodality, Ridgeley Senior Citizens, former member of the Allegany County Hairdresser Association, and a member of 4th District Women Democrat Club. Polly was employed as the beautician at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., for 50 years.

    Surviving are two daughters, Mary Frances Alt and husband Bruce; and Susan V. Beck and husband Bob, all of Cumberland; seven grandchildren, William G. Alt and wife Terry, Reston, VA; Robert B. Alt and wife Vikki, Morris Chapel, TN; Sheila S. Greise and husband Donald, Cumberland; Sheri K. Rotruck and husband Tony, Bel Air, Cumberland; Kirk L. Beck and wife Ellen, Cumberland; Capt. Sarah S. Beck, U.S.A.F., Little Rock, AK; and Kyle R. Beck and fianc? Brie Burns, Cumberland; and nine great-grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Alt; Bethany N. Alt; Caitlin R. Alt; Joshua B. Alt; Justin D.     Martha Ellen Kovacich, 70, of Lancaster, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, passed away Monday, April 24, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.
    Martha is survived by her children who will miss her dearly, son, Fred (Debbie) Skinner; daughters, Mary Mortensen and Diana (Jim) Hutchinson; grandchildren, Wendy (James) Lieser, Chad Blount, Jimmy Hutchinson, Jared Skinner, Jamie (Matt) Gillum, Cathy (Wade) Yenter and Jeremiah Hutchinson; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers Homer and Junior Wilfong.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Kovacich.
    The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice of Central Ohio for their kind and compassionate care. Caring Cremation will take place by Frank E. Smith Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at a later date in Maple Grove Cemetery, Baltimore.

    Martha Kovacich
    Martha Ellen Kovacich, 70, of Lancaster, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, passed away Monday, April 24, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.
    Martha is survived by her children who will miss her dearly, son, Fred (Debbie) Skinner; daughters, Mary Mortensen and Diana (Jim) Hutchinson; grandchildren, Wendy (James) Lieser, Chad Blount, Jimmy Hutchinson, Jared Skinner, Jamie (Matt) Gillum, Cathy (Wade) Yenter and Jeremiah Hutchinson; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers Homer and Junior Wilfong.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Kovacich.
    The family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice of Central Ohio for their kind and compassionate care. Caring Cremation will take place by Frank E. Smith Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at a later date in Maple Grove Cemetery, Baltimore.
