     William Wilfong was born in Pocahontas County (then Virginia), June 28, 1830.
He was the son of Micheal and Catherine (Simmons) Wilfong. His father was
born in 1802 and died in 1881. His mother was born in 1804 in Pocahontas
County. Duiring the civil war William Wilfong served a term of eight months
in the army, then renlisted and served two years. Among the engagements
in which he was a participant were: Middlebrook, Lexington, Lynchburg,
Liberty, Salem, Buffords Gap, Beasons Ford, and Winchester (from July 19
to 24 1864), Martinsburg, McConnelsburg, Hancock, Moorefield, again at
Martinsburg, Bunker Hill, Buckleton, Stephensons Depot, again at Winchester,
Fishers Hill, Weirs Cave, Gordensville. etc.

He served as company quartermaster during this time. The first wife of Mr.
Wilfong was Lucy Jane Shipman who was born in Ohio, she died in September
1861. One child was born of this union, and died unnamed at the top of
Alleghany Mountin in Pocahontas County.

On March 6, 1866, William became the husband of Cyrina Hanks (daughter of
Jacob and Sarah (Hidy) Yeager. She was born in Pocahontas County on
December 2, 1831. Her mother moved to Ritchie County, her father died on
October 12, 1861. The children of her marriage to Mr. Wilfong were three.

William Wilfong moved to Gilmer County, November 14, 1866, and was a
farmer in Glenville District. He served as overseer of the poor farm from 1874
till 1878, and in 1880 was elected Justice of the Peace for Glenville District.
He died March 17, 1904, and is buried on Duck Run.¹¹ He served 2 years, 8 months in the Army during the Civil War.
