She was born July 7, 1922 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late William L. and Bessie Jane Corathers Dowell. On July 7, 1944 at the Ft. Myers Chapel in Arlington, VA she married Robert Lee Sowder who preceded her in death on September 14, 1991. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael R. Ashley; three brothers, Meyers, Page and Keith Dowell and one sister, Nora Smith. She is survived by one son, Robert Lee Sowder, II of Buckhannon; one daughter, Roberta Ann Ashley and husband Mike of Woodstock, IL; one grandson, John Ashley and wife Kathryn of New York, NY; two brothers, Howard Dowell and James Dowell both of Buckhannon; one sister, Kathryn Goldsmith of Salem, WV and many nieces and nephews. At the time of her retirement Mrs. Sowder was a secretary for Fairfax County School Systems in Virginia. Friends will be received Saturday, November 10, 2007 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bradley Tenney officiating. Burial will follow in the Reger Chapel Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your local American Diabetes Association in Dorothy’s memory. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Hi John
    I been doing some research since I emailed you and I figured out that from a newspaper article about J. Harrison Teets and Della Gooding Teets that Della was in the Tucker Co., WV census two times. Once with Harrison with 3 children then with her Mother with 4 children, apparently she was staying with her Mother at the time of her son birth, Theodore was born in May 02, 1910.
    Della parents are William Cable Gooding b. 22 March 1854 d. 10 December 1905 and is buried in the Sisler Cemetery and Mary Hardesty b. about 1856 in Terra Alta, Preston Co., WV. Mary was married before to a John Collins. I have a marriage date of 10 February 1881. But there are Gooding children born before 1881 so I'm thinking that William Cable Gooding was married to another woman before Mary.
    William Cable Gooding would be my double cousin. But this is not my direct line as my Mother was from the Andrew Goodwin and Harriet Townsend line in Bruceton Mills, Preston Co., WV.
    The William Cable line goes back to Elias Gooding his father was John G. Goodwin who married my Great Aunt Elizabeth Jane Bowman. John G. Goodwin was my Great Uncle before his married my Great Aunt Elizabeth Jane Bowman. Do I have you confused yet?
    The Elias Gooding line keep there Gooding name while the others changed there name to Goodwin.
    I remember the Goodwins talking about the Gooding going by there Gooding name when I was growing up in WV.
    Janice Cale Sisler has the Sisler Cemetery listed in one of her books and there are only two Goodings listed in the Sisler cemetery that has headstone, one for William C., and a field stone for C. F. Gooding, which from my research is most likely William C. son, Clyde F. Gooding who died at age 26 in Grant Co., WV from an Accidental Electric Shock, he was a miner and married. But since he died in 1915 I have no wife yet. I will have to try and find a marriage record for Clyde. Clyde is also in the 1910 census two times, once in Preston Co., and also Grant Co., WV with Harrison and Della.
    I have a 56th wedding anniversary newspaper article about Harrison and Della, that I will type up and send you.
    I wanted to ask you about your website, what program did you use? I would like to get a program that I can put pictures in like you did.
    Would you put on your website who Della parents are? and any other information I send you.
    It could be that Mary Hardesty Gooding is buried by William Cable in the Sisler Cemetery but maybe no headstone. Just seems like there should be more than two Gooding buried there. Some of the other Gooding are buried in the Terra Alta cemetery.
    If you go to the WV State Archive you can find some of there death records.

    Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Teets celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in their home on West State Avenue on Mothers' Day, the children honored the couple with a turkey dinner in honor of the double occasion. A huge yellow and white cake bearing the inscription "Happy Anniversary," centered the table, the couple was presented with many gifts for their anniversary with Mrs. Teets receiving the usual Mothers' Day gifts including an orchid corsage.
    The Teets were married May 11, 1902 in the Methodist parsonage at Lenox by the Rev. Josiah Feather. Mrs. Teets was the former Della Gooding, daugher of Mr. and Mrs. William Gooding of Terra Alta and Thomas. Mr. Teets was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob F. Teets of Terra Alta.
    Mr. and Mrs. Teets have spent most of their lives in Terra Alta, except for a short time spent in Thomas. They are the parents of five daughters and one son.
    Attending were Mrs. Irene Kelly, St. Clairsville, O., Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Teets, Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. Edith Garnall, Cumberland, Md., Johnny Baker, Woodneld, O., and Mrs. Beulah Sypolt and son Stanley of Route 2, Terra Alta.

    In the newspaper article, Stanley Sypolt was the son-in-law to Della Gooding Teets, brother to Asa Sypolt who married Beulah Teets. They are in the 1920 Terra Alta, Preton Co., WV census. Beluah was 17, and Asa was 21 years old. Also 1930 Census.

    HAMPTON - Kenneth W. Teets, 77, died at home, surrounded by those he loved, on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, after a brief illness.
    A resident of Norfolk since 1954 and a Garrett County, Md., native, he had moved to Hampton in September 2007.
    Born in Friendsville, Md., he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947 and married the former Encie Odell Rhodes in 1954. A submariner and Chief Radioman, Teets served aboard the diesel submarines USS Redfin and the USS Cubera. He also served 10 years of his Navy career on destroyers. He retired from the Navy in 1967 after service during both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and served 20 years as a telecommunications supervisor in the U.S. Civil Service, retiring in 1988.
    A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Encie; and his daughter, Tracey Teets Schwarze.
    The youngest of 10 children, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Ward Teets; his parents, Harvey and Pearl Teets; and his brothers, Arthur, Ivan, Stanley "Jim", Glenn and June.
    He is survived by sisters, Rose Laub of Confluence, Pa., and Mildred Umbel of Friendsville, Md.; and brothers, Orval Teets of Swanton, Md., and Warren Teets of Lakeland, Fla.; and more than 250 nieces and nephews.
    A memorial service will be conducted at noon Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Albert G. Horton State Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. A service of celebration will take place at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Swanton, Md., at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24.
    The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Kenneth W. Teets Endowed Merit Scholarship, Christopher Newport University Education Foundation, 1 University Place, Newport News, VA 23606.

    My mother remarried when i was young and did not speak of my fathers family often. It was not until I was 18 and was introduced at the family reunion. Aunt Esther was a wonderful woman who told me so much about the family. She sat down with me at my brothers house in the early 1990's and gave me the family tree. Everything she gave me is the same as yours except my father and his marriage.
    John do you know who told you or Janice this was who he married and that Jo Ann was his daughter. I despreatly need to find out this information. My mother passed in 1988 and my two surviving siblings are not in good health. So any information about this would be great.
    Everything you have concerning my father is correct. His date of birth, death and SS#.
