Esty - Erie Wilfong Roberts, born July 21, 1924 in Mill-point, Pocahontas County, passed away like a twinkling star fading into the night Saturday, August 21, 2004, at 1:20AM at her home of 37 years near Esty, surrounded by friends and family after a very brief illness. Erie reminded us of the legendary "Aunt Arie" of the Foxfire Series. "Arie was genuine. She worked hard, she loved with all her heart and she never passed judgement on the countless people who came into her life; all were welcome. She made everyone who passed through her door feel at home, no matter how far away they were from their own home. She was full of love! What more is there to living?" (Aunt Arie, Foxfire Books.) The same was true of Erie Roberts. She was preceded in death by her father, Amon Brown Wilfong; mother, Maggie Kellison; husband, Guy Wilfong; significant other, Dewey Farley; children, Arnold Wilfong, Thurmand Roberts, and Daisy Blake; brothers Randolph, Amon, and George Wilfong; sisters Nell Copen and Mary Hankins; and stepchildren Dale Roberets, Desarie Rhodes, Madeline Christianson, Jerry Farley, and Inez Crasper. Erie is survived by four daughters and two sons; Irene Pyles of Sebert, Sarah Schlag of Richmond Hill, GA, Juanita Johnston of Esty,k Maggie "Marie" Walton of Frankford, Guy Wilfong of Lewisburg, and grandson, Richard Wilfong who she raised as a son from infancy, of Frankford; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dennis and Ben Wilfong of Pocahontas County; and five stepchildren, Charles Farleyi of Whiteford, MD, Allene Scott of Accokeek, MD, Bernard Farley of Alexandria, VA, Rosalea Profit of Johnson City, TN, and June Holtzman of Springfield. Erie was primarily cared for by her daughter and son-in-law, Jaunita and David Johnston during the final years of her life and she will be deeply missed by her friends and fmily. Special Thanks to Autumn and Dinga Wooling. Services will be held at 2PM Monday, Aug. 30, at Band of Hope Baptist Church at Esty with Rev. Emory Hanna officiating. Buriul will follow Ellis Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 6PM to 9PM Sunday at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
