Published: February 26, 2005
Ruby M. Wilfong, 94, of Brookings, died Feb. 11, 2005, at his home of natural causes.
He was born Jan. 17, 1911, in Buckeye, W. Va., to James Gilbert and Susie Elizabeth Kellison Wilfong.
He was raised and educated in Buckeye and, at the age of 20, moved to Kalama, Wash.
He married Maxine Marie Pearsall Dec. 27, 1938.
The couple made their home in Kalama where Mr. Wilfong worked as a Teamster truck driver and later owned a gas station, Ruby's Texaco.
In the late 1950s the family moved to a small farm in Grants Pass. Mr. Wilfong worked as a logger, retiring around 1965.
In 1981, the couple moved to Brookings.
Mr. Wilfong was an honest and generous person with traditional values who believed in taking care of his family, they said.
Together, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfong raised four children and four grandchildren. They were known to be "hands-on" grandparents, playing an active role in all of their grandchildren's lives, including keeping them most summers and teaching them to fish.
Mr. Wilfong enjoyed building birdhouses, going to garage sales, and had an on-going sale of his own.
Survivors include son Richard Paul of Longview, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law Sandra and Murry Carter of Lady Lake, Fla., Susie and Charles Chambers of Bend; brothers Earl Wilfong of Eureka, Calif., Jack Wilfong and wife Beverly of Longview. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine; seven brothers; daughter Betty Ellen Wilfong; grandsons Scott and Stacey Jacobs; granddaughters Cindy Wilfong and Danielle Estes.
Memorial contributions may be made to Curry County Hospice, P.O. Box 746, Gold Beach, OR 97444.

Scott Douglas Teets left this world for his Heavenly home on Feb. 10, 2008, at Community North Hospital surrounded by family after a courageous four-month battle with cancer. He was 50.
Born Dec. 3, 1957, in Franklin, he was the son of Eddy and Martha Campbell Teets. He married his high school sweetheart Debra Bullington on March 26, 1983.
In addition to his beloved wife, Deb, he leaves behind one son, Jason Scott Teets and one daughter, Jessi Ann Teets. He also leaves behind his mother and father; his brother Steve Teets (wife Sandy) of Indianapolis; and sister, Sheryl (Teets) Johnson (husband Michael) of Carmel, and several nieces and nephews.
Scott was a 1976 graduate of Franklin Community High School, a 1980 Cum Laude graduate of Butler University with a degree in business and journalism, a 1984 graduate of Harvard Business School (MBA), and a 1997 graduate of the Indiana University School of Law.
Scott started his business career with Dow Chemical. After completing his MBA, he worked with several locally-held companies. As an attorney, Scott served as associate general counsel for Bindley Western, general counsel for Priority Health Care, staff attorney with Ice Miller, and most recently as general counsel for SXC Health Solutions in Lisle, Ill. In addition, he exercised his entrepreneurial spirit by investing in and serving on the board of directors for several central Indiana companies.
Scott will long be remembered for his clever and entertaining wit, business savvy, as a brilliant communicator, both with the written and spoken word, and as an excellent provider for his family.
Scott was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his wife, children and his extended family. Scott enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, fishing, house boating, biking, and working in his yard and woods. He was an avid sports fan, a staunch supporter of the Butler University Bulldogs, the Indianapolis Colts, and any sport his son or daughter participated in. Scott also loved exploring the United States with his family.
Growing up, Scott was active in Boy Scouting, earning the rank of Eagle Scout and as a counselor at Ransburg Scout camp for two summers. He was an outstanding musician, and performed with a dance band. He was involved for several years with the Johnson County Good Cheer Fund which his father chaired for 37 years. In college, Scott was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, where friendships he made continued throughout his life.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary in Zionsville, 105 W.
