    Mrs. Teets was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Friendsville, Md., to John and Sarah Hardin Van Sickle.
    She had worked for Joy Manufacturing, Franklin. Mrs. Teets previously was a cook for the former Humes Hotel, Mercer.
    She was a Protestant. Mrs. Teets was a 4-H leader in the Franklin area.
    Her husband, Ivan L. Teets Sr., whom she married March 28, 1936, died Jan. 14, 1995.
    Surviving are: two daughters, Pat Higbee and Mrs. George J. (Peggy) Swartz, both Mercer; two sons, Landon R. Teets, Mercer; and Ivan L. Teets Jr., Sharon; four sisters, Mrs. Richard (Dolores) Smith, Hadley; Mrs. William (Betty) Rowe, Jamestown; Mrs. John (Grace) Dickman, Paramus, N.J.; and Mrs. Harry (Marge) Savajis, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Eleanor Crowley and Freda Dunn; and two brothers, Playford and Jack Van Sickle.
    Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 3168 E. State St., Hermitage 16148.

    If you get on the WVSite for both Birth & Death (Preston Co.), under just the Teets last name only, it gives an unnamed male born 10/1887 and died 10/1887 - cause of death is stillborn, giving parents names as Jeremiah & Laura. When they buried the child, most likely they gave him the name Russie W. Teets.

    In looking at Janice Sisler's Vol. III cemetery book for Webb's Chapel, nr Hazelton, it states Jeremiah & Laura Belle are buried there along with Bruce E. Teets, Russie W., and Ruth. The MD, Vol. II, book gives the same information plus stating 6 fieldstones in a row beside the Teets graves with no names or dates. This convinces me that this was a family plot and the young ages of death for the children to be Jeremiah's & Laura's.

    Aaron, it has been said that disease killed as least as many soldiers in the Civil War as were killed in combat. Aaron died of small pox at Clarksburg Post Hospital in April 1964, a little more than a year after his marriage to Harriet Seese. Harriet had been at Jackson Fike's and they were married by the illustrious Jacob M. Thomas. The Thomases seemed to take some interest in Harriet's welfare before and after her marriage. After 32 years of widowhood, she married in Blackbird, NE to A.J. Spindler who had come from Pennsylvania. Her daughter Eliza married William C. Teets. (Source: Preston County News July 6, 1976)

    "Harriet received an $8 widower pension from the federal goverment (source: Pensioners on the Roll, dated Jan. 1, 1883)."

    After Aaron died she began a relationship with Andrew J. Spindler. When Andrew's wife, Mary Cupp, wouldn't leave to go to NE, Harriet went with him. She left her daughter, Eliza, probably by Andrew, with her sister-in-law*, Cynthia Ellen Duvall Glover. Hence, the Glovers raised Eliza till the day she married. After Andrew and Mary were divorced, Harriet married him.

    *Jeff erred in stating Cynthia was a sister-in-law when she wasn't.

     Harriet Seese was born circa 1833 in Maryland.2 She married Aaron Duvall, son of Aaron Duvall and Evalina Ervin, circa 1863.1 Harriet Seese married Andrew J. Spindler, son of John Spindler and Ellen (?), on 7 March 1894 in Blackbird, Nebraska.3,4

    Eliza is not the d/o Harrison Glover & Cynthia Ellen Duvall. She is the daughter of Harriet Seese Duvall and possibly Andrew J. Spindler. You have Jeff Duvall's note explaining why her birth was recorded as 1863 instead of 1870.

    FYI, I made an error stating Cynthia was the sister to Aaron Duvall when she is really the niece of Aaron instead. I apologize for my error. So there's no blood relation at all to Eliza, since Aaron wasn't Eliza's father. (Note: Cynthia's father, is James M. Duvall, oldest brother of Aaron, who married Harriet Seese)

    Aaron, it has been said that disease killed as least as many soldiers in the Civil War as were killed in combat. Aaron died of small pox at Clarksburg Post Hospital in April 1964, a little more than a year after his marriage to Harriet Seese. Harriet had been at Jackson Fike's and they were married by the illustrious Jacob M. Thomas. The Thomases seemed to take some interest in Harriet's welfare before and after her marriage. After 32 years of widowhood, she married in Blackbird, NE to A.J. Spindler who had come from Pennsylvania. Her daughter Eliza married William C. Teets. (Source: Preston County News July 6, 1976)

    "Harriet received an $8 widower pension from the federal goverment (source: Pensioners on the Roll, dated Jan. 1, 1883)."

    After Aaron died she began a relationship with Andrew J. Spindler. When Andrew's wife, Mary Cupp, wouldn't leave to go to NE, Harriet went with him. She left her daughter, Eliza, probably by Andrew, with her sister-in-law*, Cynthia Ellen Duvall Glover. Hence, the Glovers raised Eliza till the day she married. After Andrew and Mary were divorced, Harriet married him.

    *Jeff erred in stating Cynthia was a sister-in-law when she wasn't.

    Andrew & Harriet did have a son, William Sylvester (Spendler) Devall as well, b. 4/7/1880 in Meek, NE. Andrew finally got a divorce from Mary and he & Harriet finally married on 3/7/1894 in Blackbird, NE (source from Jeff Duvall).
